Type 1 Diabetes

JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes 2012

On September 15th, we participated in the 2012 Walk To Cure Diabetes sponsored by JDRF.  It’s an annual event held at the Milwaukee County Zoo.  We couldn’t have asked for a better day, the sun was shining bright, it was around 80 degrees.  Over 7,000 JDRF supporters were there to celebrate the lives of those with type 1 diabetes, it was fantastic.

We were blessed to raise over $3500.00 for JDRF and the Artificial Pancreas research that they are doing.   I really believe that will be in Joey’s future and will change his life like the pump did 2 years ago.

My grandson Cooper was diagnosed before Joey, he was only 22 months old, he’s now 6 and so adorable and healthy.

We always participate in the walk together and had many family and friends come out to the Zoo to support Joey and Cooper. .  It’s a surreal experience to have people come out and walk with you, and the atmosphere is awe-inspiring.  The first year I was at the walk for Cooper, I cried.  After Joey was diagnosed, and we were now walking for two family members, I choked up when I got out of my car.  It’s so emotional to be among so many people that support you and maybe don’t quite understand the disease in it’s entirety, but are there to show you that you are loved, and have their support.

I’ll say it again, we are blessed to have wonderful people in our lives that support us year after year, not only with our walk, but in our daily lives.

Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough, but there aren’t words that express our gratitude.
